Email Filters in Internet Mail

Filters are a great way to automatically handle your incoming or outgoing mail based on certain criteria. They save you the time and effort normally used to sort through your email, especially if you receive a lot of email daily.

Mail Menu
  • Click on the Mail menu, then choose Inbox Assistant.

    Filters

  • This will bring up a window that lists your current filters. From here you can add to and delete these filters.
  • To add a new filter click the Add button.

    New Filter

The filter capabilities of Internet Mail are VERY basic. It will allow you to match certain criteria and move a message which matches that criteria to a different folder only. For this example we will choose to match incoming mail which contains the word spam in the subject.
  • In the Subject box, we type spam.
  • In the Move To section at the bottom, we choose Deleted Items
  • Click the OK button to close this window.

    Filters

  • You should now see the newly added filter in the box.
  • Click the OK button to close this window.

Internet Mail is now setup with your very first filter! The main reason for using filters in Internet Mail is to sort incoming mail into different folders automatically.
