Downloading in Internet Explorer 5.0

Downloading files with your browser is one of the most common and easiest ways to obtain a copy of software. It is not very difficult to do so either. There are two common ways of downloading files. Follow these steps, and you will be downloading files in no time!

Method 1:

  • First you will need to surf to the site from with you are trying to download. Once you left click on the download link, you should see a window similar to the one below.

    Download Window

  • At this point you can choose to open the file (not save a local copy) or download a local copy of the file to your hard drive. For our example we will save the file, so click the OK button.

    Save As Window

  • At this point, you can choose where you would like to store the file. For simplicity, we recommend you create a folder to use when downloading files from the Internet. You can do so by clicking on the Create New Folder icon (the folder with the star in the right corner). We created a folder called My Downloads. Once you have selected the desired folder in the drop down list at the top, click the Save button.

    Download Window

  • Your download should now start, and you should see a progress bar move across the screen while the file is downloading. Once the download is complete, the file will be placed in the folder you specified in the previous step.

Method 2:

  • Method 2 works just like Method 1, except you RIGHT CLICK on the download link instead of LEFT CLICKING.

    Popup Menu

  • On the popup menu, you should see a choice that says Save Target As. When you click on this choice, you will be presented with the same choices as in Method 1. The main reason you would try to download a file this way is when your browser tries to display the contents of the file instead of trying to download the file.
